Oct 26 and Oct 27, 2012 we, the youths from Baguio-Benguet
where scheduled for a Builder’s Camp at Brgy. Talogtog, San Juan, La Union.
October 25, 2012 was the arrival of our team at the GK site
in San Juan. We are composed of the different Universities and Colleges in Baguio-Benguet. We are welcomed by Sir John
Yu, Volunteer Management Coordinator and welcomed by the community.
| The kids welcomed us when we arrived. :) |
Our first night was not easy. The new environment has been our first
challenge (hotness of the place, traditions and expectations of the community, and
other environmental, physical, emotional factors).
We are assigned to the different houses in the Gawad Kalinga
site, this is exciting and at the same time a great challenge to us; because of
that we are able to know their cultures, stories, family backgrounds, and
learned from them.
October 26, 2012
We woke up early and prepare ourselves from the prepared
activities for us.
On the first hour, Sir John Yu of GK discussed about the
values of Filipino people, what makes us Filipino, and the GK values that they
wanted to be passed and remembered by the youths and families in the GK site.
He also let us write a word that describes us (OPTIMISTIC is the word that
describes me because I believe that everything happens for a reason).
In the afternoon were the physical challenges. We were divided into four groups and We are
ask to plan for group names, yells and animal sound (I find this FUN).
The first activity was the Passing of the drawing
The second activity was the Tie-feet and hands
The third activity was choosing a box (no pictures yet)
The forth activity was the Rolling on mud
The fifth activity was the Finding of group mates using the animal sounds planned with blindfolds.
The last challenge to us was a Mind game that we solved!
After the activities Sir processed the activities.
At
night, We again gathered for a serious talk. The question to us was IF YOU DIE,
HOW WOULD YOU WANT TO BE KNOWN? . This was a hard question to us that we shared
individually. We ended 9:30pm
October 27, 2012
This was our last day of stay here in the site.
We woke up early again to prepare for the activity of the
day.
After breakfast, Sir John gathered us again for a small story telling about
his experiences so as with Maam Marilyn Hora. We learned a lot from them and
surely that will all remain in our hearts and mind. And we actually received a rosary from one of the members of the families here in the site it was so sweet.
After that was the planning of upcoming plans and activities
of Team Baguio GK, after the discussions We planned to help in cleaning the
surroundings of the GK site. I remembered one mother saying “Anak, Thank You sa
pag-linis ng paligid, Welcome kayo palagi dito..balik lang kayo” this words are
very sweet and touching to my heart.
Done Cleaning and Our last lunch in the site was made
special, it is actually a boodle fight eating together with Sir John Yu and
Maam Marilyn Hora and with the different families where we stayed.
Our stay in the Gawad kalinga site was very inspiring and
full of knowledge. We, the Gawad kalinga Team Baguio will continue our passion
to help with our own ways and hoping that activities planned will all be
accomplished.
